Last week, Locus’s Community Manager Eva was given the opportunity to participate in a staff exchange program promoted by the European Creative Hubs Network. She joined the team at The Living Room Coworking (TLR) in Malaga for a week full of collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and new experiences. During her time at TLR, she had the chance to dive deep into their coworking operations, learn best practices and connect with their members.
Locus and TLR crossed paths for the first time in 2024, during the Coworking Spain Conference that took place in Madrid. Our shared vision and common interests laid the groundwork for a lasting collaboration.
Locus Workspace was designed from the beginning to provide a productive and engaging environment for remote workers, freelancers, and entrepreneurs coming from all corners of the world. With a strong community approach, Locus offers a wide range of carefully curated events, networking opportunities, and a supportive workspace culture. These efforts create an engaging environment where members can collaborate, network, and grow both professionally and personally. Throughout the years, Locus has built a reputation for its well-organized community activities, including mastermind groups, workshops, and casual meetups, ensuring that members feel connected and supported.
TLR bears an astonishing resemblance to Locus in terms of space capacity, member profile and community approach. Recognized as the Best Coworking Space for Nomads by The Nomad World, TLR is known for its strong sense of community and its ability to attract remote professionals from around the world. It emphasizes community-building through various events, workshops, and informal gatherings, fostering an environment where members can share knowledge, create meaningful connections, and collaborate on projects.
With so much in common, we saw a great opportunity to learn from each other. The ECHN Staff Exchange program proved to be the perfect way to bring our collaboration to life.
Participating in the ECHN Staff Exchange Program was a fruitful experience that strengthened ties between Locus Workspace and TLR. Over the course of a week, Eva, Locus’s Community Manager, gained firsthand insights into TLR’s operations, community-building strategies, and workflow optimizations, all of which provided valuable takeaways to implement back at Locus.
The week at TLR in Malaga began with a warm welcome and a tour of the space by Carmen, one of TLR’s community managers. Walking through the coworking space, meeting the team, and getting a feel for the environment, it quickly became clear how much Locus and TLR have in common—not just in terms of size and member profile, but also in the way both spaces prioritize community, connection, and collaboration.
Throughout the exchange, Eva had the opportunity to dive into the daily operations of TLR, gaining valuable insights into their approach to automation, member engagement, and community-building. Learning from Ben, TLR’s founder, was particularly helpful—his expertise in streamlining workflows and enhancing the coworking experience sparked ideas for improvements that could be applied at Locus. Seeing firsthand how TLR fosters an engaged community reinforced the importance of constantly evolving and refining our own strategies at Locus.
Beyond the operational takeaways, one of the most rewarding aspects of the exchange was the people. Spending time with TLR members, joining conversations, and even attending a networking event made us realize just how much potential there is for deeper connections between our communities. Many of their members share the same spirit of curiosity, entrepreneurship, and collaboration as those at Locus, making it easy to imagine future opportunities for cross-community engagement.
Looking back, the ECHN Staff Exchange was an incredible experience that strengthened the bond between our two coworking spaces. It reinforced what we already suspected: Locus and TLR are more alike than we realized, and by working together, we can create even greater opportunities for our members and our communities.
But it’s not only our staff that can enjoy working from Malaga! We’ve established a cooperation with The Living Room that allows members from both our spaces to experience coworking in a different city. Through this exchange program, Locus members visiting Malaga can work from TLR for up to five days per quarter free of charge, and TLR members can do the same when visiting Prague.
With so much in common between our spaces, from our community-driven approach to the profile of our members, we know this exchange will be a natural fit. We’re looking forward to seeing our members take advantage of this opportunity and welcoming TLR members in our space in Prague!
