How to find accomodation in Prague

Finding an accomodation in a new city where you’ve never lived before can be complicated. Here are some tips for you if you’re planning to move to Prague both for long term or short term periods.

Things to consider when looking for a flat in Prague

Not knowing which location to pick or where to start looking for a place to stay could be tricky in many cases. Before looking for a specific place, you should take into account several factors, such as:

– where you want your place to be close to (your office/workspace/shopping malls…),

– if it’s close to public transportation stops,

– last but not least, if the location is safe enough.

Short term accommodation in Prague

Airbnb

Whether you’re looking for a studio or a shared apartment, Airbnb is a great place to start looking. All you need to do is register to this website, pick the place you like the most and contact a landlord.

Facebook groups

Another tip for where to start looking for a place is to join one of the many Facebook groups dedicated to renting an apartment or just a single room. Be aware that in these groups, you can only find accomodation if you plan to move to Prague for a longer period of time (e.g. at least 6 months). Below you can find links to the most popular FB groups offering accommodation.

In case you don’t find any place that would be convenient for you, feel free to write a post in one of these groups specifying what kind of accommodation you’re looking for (private or shared apartment), preferred location and, of course, your budget. You can add more information about yourself, too, as it helps potential landlords to get to know you a little bit more.

Tip: You can always try to type your nationality in a Facebook search and add “in Prague“. For example: Germans in Prague. In groups like this people of the same nationality living in Prague share their tips, recommendations or just help each other.

Local websites

When it comes to finding an accomodation in Prague, the offer on local websites is rich in listings. The biggest and the most used website is Sreality, however there´s a commission fee for the providing. Unfortunately, some of these websites are only in Czech language so if you are a foreigner not speaking Czech it might be complicated for you to contact the landlord. The most used and with a wide range of offers are these websites:

Sreality.cz

Ulovdomov.cz

Bezrealitky.cz

Bazoš.cz

Prices

Like in every city, appartements prices vary mostly according to their location. The closer to the city center, the more expensive it is. Here’s an overview of prices for a single room in a shared apartment depending on the location:

LOCATIONPRICE (utilities included)
Prague 8,9,105 500- 8 500 CZK per month
Prague 7,6,57 500- 10 500 CZK per month
Prague 4,3,2,18 500- 11 000 CZK per month

To have an even better and more precise overview about monthly expenses while living in Prague, we suggest you to visit this website where you can find calculations of the most common expenses and compare them with other cities or countries or you can check our previous blog post with monthly expenses calculations as well.

Whether you are working remotely, are a digital nomad or a freelancer, working from home where you spend most of the time could be inconvenient or in some cases even depressing. That’s why you can try to work from shared workspaces. If you choose Locus workspace for your new remote office, you’ll get a great space not only to work from, but to meet an awesome community from all over the world which you can share your goals, ideas or cultural experiences with. Best of luck with finding your new place in Prague!
