New in Prague? 5 Best Pubs in Prague to Meet People

Prague is a charming city whose history and architecture attract millions of tourists and visitors every year. Its international scene and low living costs make Prague not only an amazing traveling destination but also one of the most chosen cities in Europe by digital nomads and expats. In addition to its numerous attractions, Prague boasts a lively pub scene where meeting new people and making new acquaintances come naturally. In Prague, and more generally in the Czech Republic, pubs are part and parcel of the local culture and serve as a social gathering spot for both visitors and locals. Whether you’re looking for a chat over a pint or a more enduring connection, here is a guide to the best pubs in the city where you can easily socialize.

Bukowski’s Bar

Located in the Žižkov area, Bukowski’s Bar is a picturesque location characterized by dim lights and retro furniture. The laid-back atmosphere makes it easy to socialize and connect – mainly with locals – who regularly meet at the bar. You’ll find a wide selection of cocktails, wine, beer, and other drinks you can sip in a suggestive environment named after the famous American writer Charles Bukowski.

The pub has been recently saddened by the passing of Glenn Emery, owner of the Bukowski’s bar. Canadian expat and entrepreneur, he has always showed love and dedication to the city of Prague, which has been the preferred location of his entrepreneurial projects. You can read more about his life and legacy here.

Coffice

Coffice is a cozy and friendly location nearby Letná Park. The bar is a coffee spot that becomes a vibrant pub at night where numerous events take place. Quiz nights on Tuesdays, music jams, and monthly exhibitions are some of the events that liven up the place and make it the best spot for mingling. The bar proposes several types of Argentinian empanadas that you can pair with your drinks. Coffice also has a comfortable outdoor space where you can take a break and enjoy a refreshing craft beer, especially in the summer.

James Joyce Irish Pub

If you’re craving a Guinness, the James Joyce Irish Pub has you covered. It’s the first and oldest Irish Pub in the city and gathers locals and visitors alike. Situated close to the Jewish Quarter, it hosts quiz nights and sports nights where you can meet fellow fans of football, golf, rugby, and F1. Their food offer is varied and includes salads, sandwiches, burgers, and much more. The friendliness of the staff creates a welcoming and convivial atmosphere where striking up a conversation is a breeze.

Bohemia Boards & Brews

Located in Prague 10, Bohemia Boards & Brews is the perfect spot for board game enthusiasts. The pub has a vast selection of strategy and party games (over 600!), both in English and in Czech. The staff will help you choose the game that fits you best based on the difficulty level and the number of players and – if needed – will explain the rules in English. The place organizes open gaming events on Sundays where everyone can join, either alone or in group. While playing, you can also enjoy some snacks and drinks on the side such as hot dogs and local beers.

The Globe Bookstore & Café

Situated only a couple of minutes away from the Dancing House, the Globe is a vibrant café and English-language bookstore. The over 10.000 books carefully chosen by the staff are the Globe’s pride, which regularly hosts events for writers and readers. The place is also a gathering spot for a thriving international community that meets up every Saturday evening. At the Globe, you can also attend events for music lovers, like open mic nights and live music sessions that perfectly match the artistic vibe of the place. If you’d like to have a drink outdoors, you can relax on the summer patio which is an amazing solution for the warmest days.

Prague’s diverse pubs are excellent spots for meeting new people and expanding your circle. From literary cafés to classic pubs, the city offers numerous solutions for expats eager to become part of a friendly international community.
